Fred Nice

It all started by accident for Fred Nice. In the early part of 1993, while on assignment for his employer, Fred was sent to Astoria, Queens. He was there to help expedite a litigation case with his expert copy skills. (That's right, a former copy operator.)

While at lunch, Fred browsed through the local paper, "The Village Voice", and happen to notice that there was a music studio right around the corner from where he was working at. Already been given a taste of music, working with the members of Kuriosity (Tazmania Records), Fred decided to explore his own possibilities of becoming an artist.

Not only did he walk into a great music studio, he also walked into the studio of Freestyle Producer Great, Philip Andreula. He is an early producer and hit writer for the sensational George Lamond.

Philip became instrumental in the development of Fred's career as he produced the local hit, "Do you believe in me," signed to Viper 7 records in May of 1995, and the less heralded, "I'm no fool," released for Freestyle Frenzy 2, in 1997. Fred Nice is also the founding member of the popular group, Vocal Image.

Seeking a contract with a record label, not just a licensing agreement, Fred approached Tazmania Records where Anthony Ponzio directed him to Willie Valentin. Willie Valentin was the man who put Vocal Image into the nation's eyes with the popular Parade series. As an artist as well, Willie put forth all his attention into making his label a success. Artistik Records was the label to be on, if you were the cream of the crop. You had to be good to be within the Artistik Family and till this day, a great honor for Fred Nice and Vocal Image.

Vocal Image soon parted in the later part of '98 and broke out as Fred Nice (Now Solo) and the Mena Brothers. While the Mena Brothers stayed and worked with Artistik Records, Fred had new management with a new vision in mind.

Through Star Artist, Fred has gone on to record demos with Victor Franco, and Carlos Berrios. Two of the more successful producers in this era. At the present time, Star Artists has a compilation in negotiations with major distributors, and it will feature a new Fred Nice cut. The cut is entitled," Do You Believe In Love." It is a remake of the Huey Luis and News classic.

Fred has also taken the responsibility of running his own label, Flipzide Productions, with new partner Nathan Lee. Nathan Lee is an artist whose first single was featured on CPR's Madness compilation. Flipzide is a new label from Hartford, CT currently working on a compilation featuring some of CT's finest artist. With awesome productions, and great writing, this duo should add to the growth of Freestyle. A writer, producer, and singer, this man of many hats will be a popular edition to Freestyle for many years to come.
